The ceiling painting represents a complex and varied programme: The four corner depictions pay homage to the Roman goddess Minerva; in seven ellipses griffins are depicted as zoomorphic hybrid beings; in another seven segmental arches 35 different types of butterflies are found; and the seven medallions show personifications of the liberal arts, which in turn are framed by naturalistically reproduced birds.
