Lustreware plate with Aragon and Sicily coat of arms

Concave plate in an opened truncated cone shape. Lustre decoration on a tin glaze, displaying in its centre a quartered coat of arms with the Aragon bars and Sicily’s eagles that belong to the Aragon-Sicily crown, probably from Ferdinand II of Aragon, king of Sicily from 1468. The background is covered by the “fine diaper of dots and stalks” pattern. This kind of plate was known during that period as “baci gran”. When they were not used, they were hung in the wall by two small holes that they had in the side, showing the obverse where they had ornaments, in this case concentric rings, or they were shown in a niche or table as a prestigious object.
