Macrodontia cervicornis

Macrodontia cervicornis has a flat body and wild pattern on its back. Its body is orange with strange black stripes, making it look a little bit Indian style. The enormous mandibles of the males can reach 5 cm long, and therefore it is given the name Macrodontia, meaning "long tooth". But its antennae are less than half the its body length and relatively short compared with other long-horned bettles. This genus is native to South America and its 11 known species can be found from Guatemala to Argentina. It is the longest beetle known in the world, with a maximum individual body length of 17.8 cm. Currently listed in the Red List of Threatened Species by the International Union for the Conservation of Natural Resources (IUCN).
