Madonna of Parturition

This painting is one of the most representative works of the Bandini Museum. In this painting Nardo di Cione has condensed various aspects of Marian iconography: the Madonna Queen of Heaven, the pregnant Madonna with one hand resting on her pregnant belly and, in the other, a book symbolizing the Old Testament, the Madonna clothed with the Sun.
