Nicolò Dorigati's painting depicts the patron saints of Trento Vigilius, Massenza, Simonino and Adelpreto in the act of offering the Virgin and Child a painting showing an urban view of the city of Trento, along with a common prayer for her blessing and defense from all misfortune. The work was commissioned by the Magistrato Consolare, the civic governing body (today's City Hall), to adorn a room in the Old City Hall; only later was it moved to the Holy Trinity Church. Engraved on the base of the throne on which the Madonna sits is the date of execution, 1718, surmounted by the eagle, the symbol of Trento.
