Song Sang-hee (1970-) has been active since her first solo exhibition in 1995 and has shown photographic works expressing feminist views. Song Sang-hee's work focuses on external events by focusing on the cross-section of the inner and outer sides of the ego rather than on exploring the inner side of the ego from a woman's perspective.
Maehyang-ri (2005) is also a work exploring the relationship between the subject and the surrounding social and cultural environment. The space called "Mehyangri," which was created as a shooting range for the U.S. military, can be said to be outside the country called Korea, and the characters in the work are historical but not heroic. In this way, Song Sang-hee visualizes sexuality and external conflicts by treating the presence of the U.S. military, which is discussed within the framework of ethnic groups, and the problems that arise from it, from a female perspective.
