Mr Weaver Baker was a prolific amateur photographer who lived in Exeter for much of his life. He created thousands of magic lantern slides from his photographs and gave shows to his friends and the public. He was interested in the process of photography and experimented with different techniques, including the early use of colour photography like this image. This slide is one in a series showing women in formal dress in different room settings. The title of each image records the different lighting and materials used. For this photographer the person in the image was seemingly less important than the process. The woman is thought to be his wife Lilly Burgess Baker.
