Milan Duomo’s Main Door is the work of Lodovico Pogliaghi (Milan, 7 January 1857 – Sacro Monte di Varese, 30 June 1950) and was inaugurated in 1906. Dedicated to the Joys and Sorrows of the Virgin, it is framed by rich marble decorations, adorned with flowers, fruits, and animals, and it is surmounted by a lunette in which a bas-relief dedicated to the Creation of Eve is placed. The right door illustrates the Joys of the Virgin, while the left one illustrates the Sorrows. Of the Liberty style, some of the panels still bear traces of the damage caused by shrapnel that fell on Milan during the Second World War when, in the August of 1943, the city was carpet-bombed.
