Mammoth Tooth

Naturalis Biodiversity Center

Naturalis Biodiversity Center
Leiden, Netherlands

The top surface of the tooth consists of lamella. These are very close to each other and sometimes overlap. The tooth is high crowned. If the tooth has a rounded tooth surface, it comes from the upper jaw. The top surface on the lower jaw teeth is concave.

The length of a tooth can be fifteen to thirty centimetres. The tooth on the picture is a lot smaller, it's the tooth of a baby mammoth!
