Excellent composition of the series of groups of “manolas” that Iturrino often painted during the first decade of the 20th century, of which a good collection was displayed at the Paris Salon d'Automne in 1911. This period is more or less the time when Iturrino and Matisse were painting together in Andalusia.

This is an oil painted with pure colours and apparently hurried brush strokes, which bears a very direct relation to contemporary Fauvism. Iturrino belonged to this movement to a certain extent, not only on account of his technique, but also because of his early friendship with the aforementioned Matisse and with Derain, making the artist from Santander one of the most progressive Spanish painters of his time.
