A Louis XIV upright, flat sided mantel clock with splayed sides and canted fore corners which is crowned by a figure of Minerva seated on a globe. Prominent bracket mounts are fitted to the shoulders and female heads above the baluster feet. Below the dial is a scene in gilt bronze of the three Fates cutting the thread of life. Below the centre figure is a Bacchic mask. The carcase is of blackened oak veneered in première and contre partie Boulle marquetry of engraved brass on tortoiseshell and tortoise shell on brass. The mounts are of chased and gilt bronze.

The gilt dial has enamel cartouches with the 12 hours represented by Roman numerals and shaped blued steel hands. The eight day locking plate striking mechanism has a going barrel movement and anchor recoil escapement.
