The red region on this map shows places of high levels of scarring from burning in the DMZ, that the United Nations Environment Programme believes are from both North and South Korean surveilance activities. The environmental degredation exhibited in this region of the DMZ contradicts the narrative of the no man's land between the North and South as an environmental safe haven, as it is still subject to the militirization of both states.
