Marjorie Johnstone nee Marjorie Rose Mant married Brian William Johnstone on 8 September 1950 at St Mary’s Church of England, Kangaroo Point, Brisbane. She was 38 years old and a well-known local actress, as well as a member of an old Queensland pastoral family. The couple went on to establish the Johnstone Gallery and to stage ground-breaking exhibitions. John Hockings started painting at the age of five and became an academic and an architect in Brisbane. After a notable career, he retired and lives in the suburb of Paddington.
