Mark Richards was already a world class surfer but in 1978 he debuted high performance twin fin designs he had been refining for some time, and rode them to great success winning 4 consecutive world championships. He made this (shaping, painting, glassing and sanding the boards himself) surfboard in May 1980 and rode this and 1 other surfboard to win the world championship that year. He broke both boards, this one in 2 pieces and the other (a board he describes as his all time favourite) in 3 pieces as a result of glassing them light to aid performance.
