No one knows the history of street art better than Martha Cooper. Photojournalist from Baltimore started shooting photo stories about troubled New York neighborhoods in the end of 70’s as a staff photographer for New York Post. Her book Subway Art co-produced with Henry Chalfant and released in the 80-s, contributed to the popularity of graffiti. During the last 40 years Martha created numerous photo stories about street artists, and the privilege of documenting main street art events is still reserved for her. As a documentary photographer she also released photo series about hip-hop, break-dance, Japanese tattoo art, and most recently the contrast of the two suburbs — Sowebo in the US and Soweto in South Africa.
