The 13-year-old Maximilian Reich in a 1941 Viennese photo studio with St. Stephan’s Cathedral as a backdrop – a last attempt at identification with Vienna as a home. On the back he wrote to the 18-year-old Martin Vogel: “Dear Martin, my last request before Poland is that you don’t forget your chaver Maxi. Ben Maxi Reich.” He was deported three days later.
