In 1958, the Polish government invited the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (“the Joint”) to return to care for Jews repatriated from the Soviet Union. At Joint-supported summer camps, Jewish children were able to embrace the richness of their heritage and traditions. Summer camps were an opportunity for relaxation, friendship, and Jewish comradery.
