Medal of King Stanisław August Poniatowski of 1766, with leather backing. The female figure is an allegory of Fortune with the Ciołek coat of arms on her chest. In her right hand, she holds a medallion with an image of the king’s head, and in her left hand, a horn of plenty from which coins are pouring out. She has a pair of scales at her feet, on her left-hand side, there is a coin press with the coat of arms of Poland and Lithuania. The Royal Castle in Warsaw is visible in the background. The outer ring bears an inscription: PROSPERITATIS ET INDUSTRIAE PUBLICAE PIGNUS ET REMENTUM. Year MDCCLXVI. Above the date, in the right-hand corner, there is a signature: I.P. H.
The medal was minted to commemorate the monetary reform carried out by King Stanisław August Poniatowski in 1766. The medal comes from a mint in Warsaw. Jan Filip Holzhaeusser was a prominent artist from Dresden. He was the court medallist to King Stanisław August Poniatowski, and the leading medallist of the Warsaw Mint until 1972.
