In 1902 the Prussian Minister of Public Works ordered the inclusion of a special medical coach in the emergency aid trains. 77 older 4th class corridor coaches were subsequently converted for that purpose in Tempelhof. The coaches were divided into two compartments. The first was a sickroom equipped with eight beds and two "Triumph" type chairs. The second compartment housed an operating room with a glassed overhead light, an operating table and cabinets for operating utensils and bandaging materials. The main railway workshop in Tempelhof made a model based on this coach for the Transport and Building Museum in 1906.
