The South wall depicts the figures of St Helena (c.250 - 330) and St Eligius (588 - 660). St Helena was the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine (c. 272-337). St Eligius is the patron saint of blacksmiths. They are likely depicted together, despite living centuries apart, because they both promoted the spread of Christianity.
