Melissa Holding (Pianist, Accordionist, Elder and Trojan Slave) in director Katie Mitchell's 1999 production of The Oresteia. The actor doubles as a video technician/artist throughout a strain of Mitchell’s work that begins with the Oresteia and is more fully developed from 2006-08 in three works at the National: Waves, Attempts on her Life, and …some trace of her. The projection of details of action shot live onstage by the ensemble fragments the stage picture for the audience but allows for a dreamlike, non-linear world to be created where the projected image may suggest an interpretation or juxtapose with text.
