In both medieval Spain and later, in Morocco, the scroll of a mezuzah was placed in a hollow carved out of a doorpost. Inside the home, it was then covered with a textile like this one. Its composition, a menorah set within a baldacchino, here formed of appliqués, is also found on other mezuzah cover, which also bear the word Shaddai (Almighty) in Hebrew characters.
