It is difficult to say something new about a phenomenon as complex as migration which interrogates and involves so many people. In Italy, this phenomenon was once experienced by people as protagonists and is now experienced by frightened spectators. In this large ceramic work, entitled Migrations, Pietro Ruffo overlaps ancient historical scenes of migrants and native peoples recomposes them into original fantastical narratives. Different ethnic groups, different layers of thoughts and ideas converge to simultaneously evoke the artist’s perspective on the most controversial and complex issue of our times.
