There is an obsessive repetition of a single element at the Miguel Torga Centre, the wall. The walls extend unbounded, tying the building to the urban fabric and, at the interstice, a square-market-parking lot appears. Souto Moura created a singular and formal architectonic repertoire which he reuses, renovating according to the circumstances. The walls, primordial archetypes of architecture, create the basic rule. In their horizontal extension, they delimit spaces, define functions and suggest meanings. A complex statement translated into a unpretentious composite plan.
