This exceptionally ornate, Louis XV-style phaeton sleigh originally belonged to Johann Jakob Bachofen-Petersen (1865–1904), a Basel gentleman of independent means. It was built by the Carrosserie Eugène Kauffmann of Basel (see the signature on the lamps) and owes its name to the head of the Roman goddess Minerva on the runners.
