This decorative jug was crafted in Germany. When a local resident, Godfrey Minnick, emigrated from Germany in 1765, he may have brought the jug with him as a reminder of his homeland. He settled in Philadelphia with his wife Frances, where they raised five children. The family lived where they worked — baking breads in an oven behind their house. Based on the archeological record, the family lived comfortably and furnished their home with fine, imported goods.
