Miniature vessel

This miniature pottery vessel is decorated with incised lines and small linear stamps. It was found in Vaughan on a site excavated by Archaeological Services Inc. (ASI) between 1998 and 2003. The site encompasses the remains of an Indigenous Village dating to the middle of the 15th century AD. Archaeologists documented eight longhouses and two midden deposits at the site, and recovered over 63,000 ceramic fragments. This pot was on the living floor of a semi-subterranean sweat lodge. Miniature pottery vessels are uncommon finds from Indigenous village sites, and archaeologists have suggested these vessels were made for personal uses or as learning vessels by novice pottery makers.
