Takahashi Megumi, who currently makes paper at the Miyama Washi Promotion and Research Center, has been learning from Yokozawa Tadashi since 2000 (Yokozawa himself had been making paper at the Center until that year) and has taken over the management of the Center since 2003. Besides the making of Miyama paper, the Center also exhibits photographs and panels of the process of papermaking, as well as allowing visitors a chance to see how paper is actually made. You can also make your own paper if you book in advance. In addition, there is also a local craft festival coinciding with the Shirataka Ayu Matsuri festival (held on September 20th and 21st in the case of 2015) celebrating the abundance of ayu (sweetfish) found inhabiting in the clear currents of Mogami River. At the festival you can also make your own paper, decorate it with drawings or try paper marbling.
