Inspired by the Czech VZ-24 musket, this was initially known as the Coruña model 1943 musket, and had a caliber of 7.92 mm (0.31"). It was primarily designed for the Army (Ejército de Tierra), but given the particular service performed by the Civil Guard, it was deemed advisable to give them this combination repeater, with capacity for five cartridges. However, a number of other guns were also in use at this time besides this 7.92 mm musket: 7 mm (0.28") Mauser models 1893, 1895, and 1915; and the 7.62 mm (0.3") Mosin-Nagant. In the 1960s, this weapon began to be replaced by the model 1916 musket, adapted to 7.62 mm caliber.
