This model in wax is composed of a number of pieces, reassembled only between 1920 and 1928. A drawing that depicts its torso, preserved in the Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe of the Uffizi, and carried out by Andrea Commodi in the second decade of the Seventeenth century, sanctions its ancient belonging to the Casa Buonarroti’s collection. The small sculpture had been identified with a study for a River God; the authenticity of Michelangelo’s hand has been confirmed by the majority of the critical.
