It is said that oil-paper umbrellas first appeared in Fujian province as early as in the Five Dynasties period (907-960 AD), and were exported in quantities only secondary to cloth and china in the Qing dynasty (1644-1912 AD). There were almost 300 umbrella shops, large and small, in Fuzhou, during the period of late Qing and early Republican China, exporting umbrella in large volumes to Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, Europe, etc.
The patterns of peony blossoms, peacocks, plum blossoms, orchid blossoms, bamboo, lotus flowers and dragonflies by well-known painters give this umbrella an eye-catching bright color palette.
