This umbrella with 28 ribs and a bamboo shaft has a bright red canopy decorated with auspicious dragon and phoenix patterns embroidered with silk threads in red, green, yellow, etc. In China’s southwestern Guizhou province, oil-paper umbrellas have been regarded as an auspicious tokens for “having a baby soon” due to the homonym of “oil” and “have” as well as “paper” and “child” in the Chinese language. The round shape of the canopy in red is also seen as a symbol for completeness and abundance in life.
