With 32 ribs, a bamboo shaft and a ferrule wrapped in red cloth, this oil-paper umbrella has a round canopy on which there is a seal of “Yinjiang oil-paper umbrella” as well as painted motifs of flowers and butterflies, which serve as the highly-decorative elements to the plain foundation of the canopy. The seal indicates that this item belonged to the Tujia ethnic minority group living in Yinjiang of China’s southwestern Guizhou province.
