Blaeu's map appeared for the first time in 1630, in the Atlantis Appendix. It was the first large-scale detailed map of the Spice Islands which were now under Dutch control. It shows the densely wooded landscape of the islands, as well as recently constructed forts. North is shown correctly, with Ternate to the far right, then Tidore, Mare, Mutir, and Machiam. Giolo Island is in the background (Jiolo or Halmahera). Bacan Island is at the top.
