This scene depicts the passing of a wagon pulled by six steer, accompanied by a gaucho on horseback, followed by another wagon behind. To the left a farmhouse can be seen, with two women who appear at the entrance and a white horse hitched to the fence. This entire foreground is finished off with a depiction of typical trees and vegetation from the zone. In the middle ground a profile of the city of Montevideo comes into view, along with a few ships anchored in the bay. Further off, the mountain that gives Montevideo its name can be seen, with an aerial perspective of the horizon at dusk. With great attention to detail, this oil painting describes the landscape as well as the tradition customs of the gauchos from the Rio de la Plata area during the 19th century.
