Building designed by architect René Barba on the former Praia da Saudade (now Avenida Pasteur, Urca - RJ). Measuring 25 meters in height and 30 meters in width, the structure was inspired by the Triumphal Gate of the 1889 Paris Universal Exposition and welcomed visitors to the 1908 Exposition. The gateway was illuminated by 8,000 electric lamps, supplied by the Rio de Janeiro Tramway, Light and Power Co.
