Eugenio Lucas was one of the most prominent exponents of Romanticism in Spain. His work was directly influenced by Goya, a painter he references extensively in his work. In this image, Lucas used thick brushstrokes and richness of color to demonstrate his exceptional capabilities as a landscape painter but also exemplified the foreign fascination for Spain's Moorish heritage and Orientalist subject matter during the nineteenth century.
