In the 1970s the Vietnamese War was becoming harsher, Chihiro, with the sense of peril that if she does not act now the children of Vietnam will die out, creates the picture book “Children among the flames of war”. In this picture book, the pictures do not follow a story, but first 50 pictures with the theme of Vietnamese children at war and children under the Tokyo air raid were painted, and then after that the book was constructed. This portrait of a mother and child has been added on afterwards, and goes along with her text “The little baby boy who has disappeared into the flames with his mother”. Despite of her worsening health conditions, Chihiro, saying “This is the only way I can act”, created this picture book for a year and a half, and the book became her last completed picture book.
