Museu Nacional

Museu Nacional
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Adornment belonging to the Guido Boggiani Collection. The adoption of Guido - a young Bororo adopted by a white family in the 19th century - came after a contact of the Mello Rego family with a group of Bororo Indians "pacified" by Captain Antonio José Duarte. His adoptive mother, Maria do Carmo Mello Rego, formed an ethnographic collection of Mato Grosso Indians donated to the National Museum by testamentary legacy in 1895.
