Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show popularized the stock characters of Western drama on both sides of the Atlantic even before the western “frontier” was closed— partly due to the railroads—in 1890. Nonetheless, the West lived on, recreated in miniature playthings for generations to come. This American Indian woman figure was part of a larger set made in Germany during the mid-1950s to capitalize on the era’s popular Western-themed television shows.
