A crowd scene at the graveside in Glasnevin Cemetery after the lowering of the coffin into the grave. According to the Evening Herald claimed the that enormous crowd in the funeral cortege was 30,000 strong; the rear of the procession was apparently still passing City Hall even as the funeral arrived in Glasnevin later that afternoon. The funeral was recorded as having taken place at 3.45pm. Footage of the funeral was being shown in some Dublin cinemas within hours of the funeral itself (Brother Allen collection, courtesy of the Military Archives).
