Cheyenne, United States

Oil painting on canvas "Mountain Landscape" by Theodore Fuchs. It is a representational landscape painting. The composition is a realistic rendering of a lake, fjord or river surrounded by steep mountains. The left foreground is dominated by a curved rocky shoreline that arcs into a low ridge. Behind the ridge is a small cottage with a steep peaked roof (possibly a boat house). There are masts of three boats near the structure. Several small rowboats and sailboats appear on the water with a rowboat containing two people in the center foreground showing the most detail. The round hills in the mid-ground and the mountains in the background are heavily forested. H 31.5" x W 43.5"

Theodore Fuchs (1849 - 1898) was a German/Norwegian artist active in the late nineteenth century specializing in mountain and fjord landscapes very similar to this work.
