Anna Ancher mostly painted scenes of interior and portraits and especially her family. One of the family members, who were portrayed a lot, was Anna Ancher’s mother Ane Hedvig Brøndum. As it is the case with all the persons Anna painted, it is impossible for the viewer to come into contact with them. Instead they always seem to be occupied with chores of everyday life, or seem to be lost in their own thoughts. You feel like you get an intimate peek into a world that is otherwise hidden, and you do it without being noticed.
