Facade
The house at Brienner Straße 26 (formerly 47) was built in 1911 by order of the Jewish antique dealer Jacques Rosenthal (1854-1937). As a residential and commercial building, it housed the Rosenthals' antiquarian bookshop, founded in 1895. In addition to Jacques and Emma Rosenthal, their son Dr. Erwin Rosenthal lived in the house with his wife Margherita from 1912. In 1935, the Rosenthals were forced by the Nazi regime to sell the building. The house was severely damaged by bombing during World War II, but was largely rebuilt according to the original plans.
