The French Revolution introduced new rituals throughout Europe, including the "Patriotic Lunch." This practice reflected the ideals of Equality, Liberty, and Fraternity, core principles of the revolutionary era. During the Jacobin Triennium (1797-1799), French presence in Bologna led to a revolutionary government that organized symbolic events. The "Patriotic Lunches" of April 22 and May 28, 1798, are particularly noteworthy. One was for "Citizens" and the other for "Citizenesses".
