The eastern mountainous area of DMZ connected to the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range is the area most adjacent to a virgin forest. The area is kept intact as a natural forest, and rare animals and plants inhabit this area. In particular, musk deer is characterized by the absence of horn and by fangs growing out of the mouth from the upper jaw.
