This painting illustrates country on Texas Downs Station where the artist lived and worked for much of her life. This area of country is associated with the story of several brothers and sisters who turned into hills in the Dreaming. One brother turned into the pink hill in the upper left where an 'old man' palm tree grows. His sister became the hill called Nytbarrdiya (the pink hill at the upper right). The striped hill below, called Goorlaling, is another brother and the two green hills at the lower right are his 'half cousin' brothers. The green hills at the lower left are a limestone formation near Texas Downs homestead. The dark semicircles represent caves in the limestone.—Waringarri Aboriginal Arts © Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory
