An extract from poet Sarah Jane Rees' (pseudonym, Cranogwen) compilation of works, 'Caniadau Cranogwen'. This particular poem, 'My Friend', or 'Fy Ffrynd', in Welsh, was written in memorandum of her companion, Fanny Rees, and is perhaps one of her most famed poems.

Rees had a varied and compelling life. In addition to her recognition as an established poet, she also spent time as a mariner, teacher, public speaker, editor, and activist.
