This print is part of Yoshitoshi's famous series "100 Aspects of the Moon" which depicts scenes from traditional Chinese and Japanese history and lore. Kwanyin, the Bodhisattva of mercy and compassion has many names. In Japan she is known as Kannon and in India she is called Avalokitesuara. Here she meditates on the island of Potalaka off the south coast of India.
