This print is part of Yoshitoshi's famous series "100 Aspects of the Moon" which depicts scenes from traditional Chinese and Japanese history and lore. In a scene from "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms", the General Cao Cao (150-220 AD) overlooks the Yangtze River. Flying birds are a harbinger of good fortune; they are flying away from him, perhaps aluding to the ending of the battle when the General was defeated.
